Accommodation in Elche is best booked well in advance of the peak summer season. Even though it's a popular city to visit with the largest palm groves in Europe, hotel accommodation is rather limited. This is partly due to it being predominantly a Spanish working city, and partly due to much of the city being home to protected palm groves and gardens. Having said that, two of Elche's most impressive hotels lie nestled within the stunning Huerto del Cura Gardens.
One of the above mentioned hotels is the elegant colonial style Hotel Huerto del Cura. A superb four star establishment with wonderful views from its bungalow style guest rooms and suites. It is also one of the few hotels in Elche that boasts a swimming pool. Also within the gardens is the four star Hotel Jardín Milenio. This has a similar beautiful garden setting and large swimming pool. A great feature of the hotel is the La Taula del Milenio Restaurant with it's delightful dining terrace. Visitors wishing to be close to some of Elche's lovely monuments and landmarks should definitely consider the three star Tryp Ciudad de Elche Hotel near the El Palmeral Gardens.
For visitors wishing to enjoy sports, activities and the city's nightclubs, the best accommodation choice is Hotel Ibis Elche. This is on the outskirts of the city next to a huge sports complex. Also within a short walk from the hotel is Distrito 41 Paintball & Laser Centre, Elche Karting Club, an ice skating rink and 5 of the city's nightclubs. A bit further afield near the AP-7 motorway are Campanile Hotel Elche and Hotel H2 Elche. A few kilometres from the city visitors will find several accommodation options not far from Alicante airport, handy if you have an early flight.
Campsites make for a great holiday experience and are a delight for the young ones. There are two camping resorts within a 30 minute drive from Elche. The closest is Marjal Costa Blanca Camping & Resort near the village of Catral. They offer a choice of campsites, caravan plots and bungalows. The larger plots are also suitable for motorhomes. Leisure and sports facilities here are excellent. They include 3 swimming pools with water slides, various sports courts and a mini golf course. For a bit of pampering there is a spa centre complete with semi Olympic size pool.
Slightly further from Elche but handily close to the beach is La Marina Camping & Resort. This place is huge and if it weren't for the nearby beaches, you would have no need to leave the gates. A thrilling feature of the resort is its Aquamarina Park. Yes, it has its very own water park as well as several other lagoon style swimming pools complete with waterfalls, islands and a delightful poolside bar. Here visitors can enjoy poolside entertainment for both adults and children. There are also sports facilities, excellent wining & dining options and a lovely spa with heated pool.
Private Holiday Accommodation
Choosing private holiday accommodation certainly has its perks. Admittedly, there is very little choice within the city centre other than apartments. However, if you venture into Elche's residential areas the choice is much better. You will find townhouses, bungalows and villas of varying sizes. Some of the larger private homes have their own gardens and swimming pools. These are a great option for holidaying families or groups who wish to spend leisure time enjoying a swim and BBQ in the glorious Spanish sunshine. For those that can't spread the holiday budget to accommodate a house with a private pool, there are gated communities.
Gated communities are perfect for families with young children. They usually impose strict speed limits and, being gated offer a sense of security. Some feature 24 hr security patrols and the majority have a variety of leisure facilities. These can include swimming pools, tennis courts, parks, playgrounds and even restaurants. Visitors to Elche wishing to stay in private holiday accommodation can use the services of an estate or letting agent. Alternately, you can save on the agent's commission fee by sourcing accommodation privately through local social media.
